Get a wiggle on
Who doesn’t like a bit of motion in a photo? Don’t get me wrong here, there will always be a need and a place for posed photographs - weddings, pets, school photos etc. When it comes to events or things, people and animals that are doing something which involves movement then it’s great when you can convey that in your work.
I have a lot of Boo photos, but then she is our Collie and we spend a lot of time with her. Fitted with Duracell type batteries (others are available) she never stops. This provides ample opportunity then to capture some great movement shots, especially if we are at the beach. On the beach I like a fast shutter and my 70 - 200mm f2.8 lens so I can stop both her and the water and blurr out any distractions in the background.
Runners like a good photo, especially if you can show some flying feet. Everyone likes flying feet 😁 I (and other sports photographers I know) are waiting eagerly for the running events to restart. There’s nothing like a good parkrun or local 5k for the opportunity to hone my skills although I do get split between photography or actually running myself!
Catching the ball in the shot for me is a bit of a holy grail! That and flying bails although this seems a bit like celebrating the batters defeat! The ball or the bail do add another dimension that portrays the effort and motion involved in the sport.
So, in 2021 I have a couple of sporting goals.
Motorsport - I am looking at calendars and events and seeing what I can get too.
Local events - Basketball, cricket, football, rugby and running. More than one camera can handle surely ??
Wildlife - strange as it seems I’m out to nail a squirrel or 3 . . . . photographically speaking of course! These little buggers have well and truly eluded me thus far.
I’ll let you know how I get on. Stay safe, blog you next week.
