Once upon a time - again
So, how on earth did I arrive here? 55 years old, redundant and thinking about photography as a part or even full time alternative to being a sensible, stable adult?
(No offense to those already doing this but then they probably started at a much, much younger age!)
Part of the plan was to throttle back from Service Management in another 2 or 3 years time, move back to telecoms engineering and move towards full retirement in another 3 or 4 years time thereafter.
R e d u n d a n c y - Henry Priestman wrote a song about this, hits the nail on the head quite nicely. To be bluntly honest, I think this has done me a ******* favour.
We are not that badly off, in consideration to others who have suffered with COVID and the shrinking job market we’re still coming up roses.
Stress wise - oh lordy, I think we forget just how damaging stress can be until we lose the thing that is the main cause in our lives.
I’ve realised that life needs to be lived, enjoyed and celebrated.
So, that’s how I got here, be interesting to know how you got here to read this :)
Sports is my more natural form of photography. I feel comfortable, at home with the competitors, a part of their action and able to capture the energy of what they do. I want, no, I need though to get closer to the action to capture the events with more clarity and feeling. This, is proving to be the difficult part.
To get the necessary accreditation and passes you need to be selling to major publications and agencies. To sell to them you need to be accredited and getting access to the competitions. Approaching these folks for backing or guidance just seems to draw a big, blank nothing. Not even a polite “bog off”. I’ll keep trying. I’m a stubborn shit like that!
With the return of sports and training then this will hopefully let me get out there and show my worth, let me learn, let me grow, maybe let me prosper a little but mainly - let me enjoy what I do all the more.
Blog you down some more next week - stay safe and live life.
