Crazy Skies
Rewind 12 months and we had fabulous weather and nowhere to go . . . other than your daily exercise, locally, which became a bit scant for photographic material after 6 weeks or so!
Here we are today, we have the freedom but the skies are the best - in a photographic sense. After Saturday’s wash out I made a run for a local spot that I hadn’t been to before. Most of the sane wildlife had remained hidden and no doubt warm and dry. Then there were the swans, the fishermen and Me !!
Feathers up, there wasn’t much paddling going on as the Swan seemed to take advantage of the onshore breeze, even with that it was a pleasantly warm afternoon. There was the odd Red Kite circling but with the poor light and their altitude the images did not flatter them at all.
Fishermen were entertaining with their demonstration of flyfishing. Something I only tried once (many moons ago) and only succeeded in snagging the back of my jacket with the fly!!
While most were in the fishery boats, one gent was in what looked to be a posh inner tube, I have to say, it looked like a set of floats attached to his waders as I couldn’t figure out where his legs went! Whatever it was, it must have been comfortable, he looked half asleep!
The treat though, as I was starting to make my way back to the car, I heard swoshing and splashing and turned to see 4 Swans taking off from the water. Despite the noise, they were totally graceful. Experts in low level flying, what a way to end the visit!
I look forward to some great skies in coming weeks and some time to catch up with nature more. All the above were taken with a Canon 1DX Mkii with a Sigma 150-600mm OS Sports lens. I have a few more shots to get for my animal wish list for this year -
Low level Red Kite, Red Squirrels and Foxes, I foresee some early mornings ahead! However, if any of you have some hints as to be areas and times to capture above said critters, please drop me a line at andrew@andrewbennettphotography.co.uk
Next week, sports - yes!
Blog you next week. Until then, stay safe and sane.
